On the night of May 8 in Jekabpils, unidentified people poured paint on the memorial to Soviet soldiers, symbolizing the Ukrainian flag and blood, Latvian radio reports. This is the same memorial whose cannon disappeared in February.

Judging by the photographs, despite the incident, locals still laid flowers at the monument.

Note that on February 24, a cannon disappeared from this monument. Police have opened a criminal investigation into the theft. The memorial was opened in 1976 and is dedicated to the heroes of the USSR who fell during the liberation of Jekabpils from German troops during World War II. The Russian Investigative Committee also opened a criminal case under the article on damage to military graves.

Video from a surveillance camera then appeared on social media, showing how an object similar to the same gun was carried under the bucket of the excavator.
