About 700 Ukrainian soldiers are in Russian captivity, Vereshchuk said. According to her, more than a thousand Ukrainian civilians were also captured by Russian troops, more than half of whom were women.
The Russian side has not officially announced the total number of prisoners on both sides.
In early April, Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation, reported that the prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine had failed due to the fault of the Ukrainian side. At the same time, Moscow was ready to transfer 251 soldiers.
On April 14, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that more than a thousand Ukrainian soldiers had surrendered in Mariupol.
